Most car rental agencies have offices at Phuket International Airport. If you prefer to rent a car once you have arrived in North Phuket Resorts, several options are available in the immediate North Phuket Resorts area. Your resort may also offer assistance in referring you to the local car rental agencies.
The local bus service is a cheap and fun way to explore the island. Most of the buses are in the style known as Songtaew, a big truck with two benches along the sides and sometimes one more bench in the middle. They can get very full with passengers hanging on to the back. Fares range from THB 10 to THB 30. Normally the buses run to and from Phuket Town to the main beaches.
Metered taxis are available but there isn’t always enough of them to cater for the vast numbers of travellers who visit Phuket. They are cheaper than tuk-tuks, though make sure they turn the metre on.
Tuk-tuks are available everywhere in Phuket. It is wise to agree on the price before you start the journey and be specific as to where you are going. A short trip could cost up to THB 200. A trip from Patong to Phuket Town should cost no more than THB 400.
